History

Molise separated from Abruzzo administratively 1963. Before 1983, wines labeled under Abruzzo appellations. 1983: Biferno DOC and Pentro di Isernia DOC established simultaneously - Molise finally got own wine identity. Named after Biferno River, region's major waterway. Di Majo Norante family winemaking since 1800 in Campomarino; founded modern estate 1968; hired Riccardo Cotarella as consultant; became "astro solitario del Molise" (solitary star). Ramitello Biferno Rosso = benchmark. 2011: Tintilia del Molise DOC added third appellation.
