Castel del Monte DOC established before DOCG. 2011: Italian wine authorities created three DOCGs for zone - Nero di Troia Riserva (varietal), Rosso Riserva (blend), Bombino Nero (rosato). Blend designation allows producers flexibility to create rounder, more approachable wines while still featuring indigenous Nero di Troia.
