History
City of Vittoria founded 1607 by Countess Vittoria Colonna Henriquez, who promoted vine cultivation granting privileges to growers. Wine production flourished 17th-19th centuries with Mediterranean trade. DOC recognition 1973 among Sicily's first. Quality improvements 1980s-90s made Cerasuolo showcase wine. September 2005: elevated to DOCG, Sicily's first and only. COS winery (Giusto Occhipinti, Giambattista Cilia) pioneered natural winemaking and terracotta amphora aging, gaining international acclaim. Modern producers balance tradition (Frappato freshness) with structure (Nero d'Avola depth).
