Cesanese di Affile DOC

🇮🇹 Italy

DOC Ultra-rare

DOC 1973 - Cesanese grape's ORIGINAL homeland, tiny Affile village, "Affile" clone namesake, ~30ha micro-appellation, highest-altitude Cesanese

Region profile

History

Affile village: possible Cesanese grape origin (name etymology). Medieval monastic cultivation. Clone considered original/finest (Cesanese di Affile = varietal name). Remote mountain location preserved traditional viticulture. DOC 1973 established. Smallest Cesanese appellation but highest quality potential due to altitude and original clone. Modern era: Damiano Ciolli brought natural wine attention; Coletti Conti family maintained quality tradition. 2008: Piglio became DOCG; Affile remains DOC but connoisseur choice for purest expression.
