History

Conegliano Enology School founded 1876, Italy's first wine school and research center. Luigi Manzoni served as director 1923-1946, creating Manzoni Bianco grape variety in 1930s by crossing Riesling x Pinot Bianco at the school. DOC status granted 1993 to recognize quality zone. DOCG status awarded 2011 alongside other Veneto promotions. Refrontolo Passito tradition dates centuries, using dried Marzemino grapes for sweet red wine (unique in Veneto). Hills have ancient viticulture traditions predating Prosecco boom.
