History

Etruscan winemaking origins - trained vines up trees (not wires). Pliny the Younger praised "Etesiaca" white. Pope Paul III ordered Cortona wines for Vatican banquets. Pre-1990s: blended/inexpensive wines only. 1988: Prof. Attilio Scienza (University Milan) planted 10 acres Syrah as experiment at d'Alessandro estate. DOC 1999. Syrah now considered "authentic local" variety. Tenimenti d'Alessandro organic since 2016.
