History

Ancient viticulture in Valle d'Itria limestone valley. Trulli construction technique prehistoric. Verdeca and Bianco d'Alessano indigenous for centuries. June 1969: DOC established. Town name "Locorotondo" means "round place". Valle d'Itria marks transition between northern and southern Puglia. Wine and trulli tourism increasingly linked.

Mediterranean moderated by proximity to Adriatic coast (16km); Valle d'Itria topographical depression in Salento limestone; part of Murgia dei Trulli landscape; Bari and Brindisi provinces; altitude 300-400m; limestone-karst terrain defines both viticulture and architecture
