Lake Garda region cultivated vines since Roman era. Turbiana grape (locally called Trebbiano di Lugana) cultivated for centuries. DNA research proved Turbiana nearly identical to Verdicchio (not Trebbiano family). Officially renamed Turbiana to honor indigenous local name. DOC status recognized quality white wine production. 2018 production reached 17.5 million bottles, 70% exported internationally. Germany traditional primary market, USA and Southeast Asia emerging markets. Lake Garda tourism drives 50% exports (tourists return home seeking wine). Lake Garda Wines project unites five consortia (Bardolino, Custoza, Garda, Lugana, Valtènesi) for shared international marketing. Rising recognition as MW/WSET study material.
