🇮🇹 Italy
DOC Ultra-rareDOC 1972 - Historic oxidative sweet wine, Bosa riverside terroir, flor-aged Sherry-style, 500-year tradition, micro-appellation
Region profile
History
Spanish Aragon rule (14th-15th century) possibly introduced Malvasia. Bosa town flourished as port. Flor-aging technique developed parallel to Sherry (possibly independent evolution). Traditional solera-style blending in some cellars. 20th century: production declined, near extinction. DOC 1972 established. 1990s-2000s: Giovanni Columbu revived tradition, gained cult following. Modern: micro-production (~20ha) but increasingly recognized. James Suckling attention brought international awareness.
