History
Settlement ~3,000 years ago (Latin populations around Lake Albano). Original village Ferentum (nymph Ferentina spring). Roman era: called "Albanum." Pliny the Elder and Horace documented Alban Hills viticulture. 1925: Sagra dell'Uva established - Italy's first grape festival. DOC 1970. 2003 watershed: single-varietal wines permitted, expanding identity beyond Frascati shadow. Modern: Gotto d'Oro cooperative (est. 1945) controls 95% market with 150 members, 1,000 registered hectares, 5.1 million bottles/year.
