Named after Irish missionary Saint Columbanus (6th century) who settled area and likely instigated local viticulture. 1,000+ years winemaking history. Geographic exclave: locals voted to remain in Milan province when Lodi province created. Luigi Veronelli (1968): 'wines just needed farmers who gave them their nobility.' Red DOC 1984. White DOC added 2002. Only DOC in entire Milan province.
