History

Named after Count Vittorio Alfieri (1749-1803), poet and playwright born in Asti. DOC status 2009. DOCG promotion 2020. Appellation begins where Roero DOCG stops, carrying northeast along north bank Tanaro River into Asti Province. 24 small producers with combined 40 hectares establishing quality standards. Steep hills with distinctive Asti sands (Pliocene marine sedimentary deposits) create unique terroir. Red + white DOCG covering both Nebbiolo and Arneis.
