Giorgio campaigned for recognition, proving Umbria could match Tuscan quality. 1974: Wine Museum founded. 1990: Rosso Riserva elevated to DOCG. 1999: Giorgio passed; family continues under daughters Chiara and Teresa.

Climate
Continental with warm summers; central Umbria at confluence of Chiascio and Tiber rivers; medieval town of Torgiano in Perugia province; hilly terrain 200-400m altitude; clay-limestone soils; protected valley position; significant diurnal temperature variation; same terroir as DOCG but broader production range
Signature wines
Torgiano Rosso DOC Rubesco (Lungarotti - benchmark since 1962, Sangiovese-Canaiolo blend); Torgiano Bianco DOC Torre di Giano (Lungarotti - Trebbiano-Grechetto, one of Italy's finest white blends); ruby red Rubesco with cherry, plum, herbs; straw-yellow Torre di Giano with citrus, almond; both age well; pairs with Umbrian cuisine (truffle, game, lentils)
What sets it apart
DOC 1968 (Umbria's FIRST DOC, among Italy's earliest); parent of Torgiano Rosso Riserva DOCG (1990); Giorgio Lungarotti single-handedly created modern Umbrian wine; 1962 Rubesco + Torre di Giano launched Umbria's quality era; Wine Museum (Museo del Vino) 1974 world-class; virtually single-estate DOC (Lungarotti dominates); both red and white styles benchmark quality
