History
Greeks founded Ancona 387 BC, established viticulture in Esino valley. Rome conquered Gauls at Battle of Sentinum 295 BC; Jesi became municipium 247 BC. First written wine reference 410 AD when Alaric's Visigoths reportedly drank Verdicchio before marching on Rome. Grape name in notarial document January 12, 1579. 1954: Fazi Battaglia's amphora bottle made Verdicchio Italy's most popular white export (1960s-70s US). DOC 1968. 2010: Riserva elevated to DOCG. Villa Bucci Riserva launched age-worthy renaissance.
