History

Pelaverga Piccolo documented since 15th century, traditionally blending grape or table grape. 20th century: Verduno growers favored lucrative Nebbiolo for Barolo, Pelaverga dwindled to near-extinction. 1972: Gabriella Burlotto of Castello di Verduno planted Massara vineyard section to Pelaverga, beginning modern revival. 1994: Grape registered in National Vine Registry. DOC 1995. Producers Association founded 2000. Eric Asimov featured in New York Times 2006. Mid-2010s: Cult status among sommeliers.
