Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) - main hub. Or KLIA2 for AirAsia budget flights.
Drinking and driving
Cameron/Ipoh: Taxis and Grab. Taman Negara: Drinking in lodge by river - just walk back to room. No driving involved.

Without a car
Entire trail by bus and boat. KL->Cameron: Direct bus from TBS Terminal. Cameron->Ipoh: Bus via Tapah. Ipoh->Jerantut: Long-haul bus. Jerantut->Taman Negara: Scenic 3-hour boat (RM35) or RM150 4WD taxi. Cameron weekend traffic is BRUTAL.

If you only have one day
Impossible - 450+ km journey. Minimum 4 days. If one day free, pick ONE: Cameron for tea, Ipoh for heritage + coffee, or Taman Negara (requires overnight).
If it rains
Ipoh is PERFECT for rainy days - heritage walking with covered walkways, white coffee shop hopping. Taman Negara in rain is MISERABLE (leeches, mud, trails closed).

Mistakes to avoid

  • Don't visit Cameron on weekends - traffic is 6+ hours from KL, prices 2-3x higher
  • Don't rent a scooter in Cameron - mountain roads are steep, foggy, cold, dangerous
  • Don't skip buying wine in Ipoh before Taman Negara - there are NO shops in the jungle
  • Don't visit Taman Negara in monsoon (Nov-Feb) - flooding, leeches, trails closed
  • Don't rush Ipoh - it's a slow morning coffee town, not a checklist blitz
  • Don't overpack for Taman Negara - light is right in jungle humidity
  • Don't expect guaranteed turtles in Cherating - they're wild animals

Worth stopping for

  • Cameron BOH: Tea terraces with wine glass at golden hour (5:30-6:00 PM). Shoot from Sungai Palas viewing deck.
  • Ipoh Street Art: Hummingbird mural on Jalan Panglima. 8-9 AM for soft morning light. Frame white coffee cup.
  • Taman Negara Canopy Walk: Looking DOWN through trees from 45 meters up. 9-10 AM light.
