Everything in Georgetown is walking distance. After drinking, walk or Grab home (RM5-10). Heritage zone bars close around 01:00, hawker centers wind down by 23:00.
Other airports
  • Kuala Lumpur (KUL) -> 4-hour bus to Penang (scenic coastal route, RM40-50)
Without a car
Georgetown is a WALKING city. Use Grab for longer distances (cheap: RM5-15). Rapid Penang buses for budget (RM1.40 flat fare). DO NOT rent a scooter - traffic is chaotic, parking impossible, walking is better. Ferry from mainland to island is FREE for pedestrians.

October-November is monsoon - afternoon deluges common. Street art gets wet. Hawker centers have covered areas. Penang Hill funicular stops in thunderstorms.
