Car required: No
Parking: Not applicable - no car needed. Lodge transfers cover everything.
Nearest airport: Kuching International Airport (KCH) - main entry to Sarawak, well-connected to KL, Singapore
Drinking and driving: BYOB is king in Borneo. Buy wine in Kuching or KK (limited jungle selection). Pack bottles in checked luggage between destinations. Lodges allow outside wine - share with other guests at dinner.
Other airports: Kota Kinabalu International Airport (BKI) - reverse the trail, start in Sabah
Sandakan Airport (SDK) - smaller airport for Kinabatangan access
Tawau Airport (TWU) - closest to Semporna/Sipadan (1.5 hour drive)
Without a car: Internal flights between Sarawak and Sabah (AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines, ~RM150-400). Grab/taxi in cities. Shared vans for overland (lodge packages arrange transfers). Boats essential for Bako and river cruises.

Why there: Multi-stop wildlife circuit. Kuching for Bako access, Kinabatangan lodges for river safari immersion, Semporna for Sipadan diving, KK for sunset finish.
Booking tip: Kinabatangan lodges MUST be booked 2-4 weeks ahead. Sipadan dive operators book 3-6 months ahead. Kuching/KK hotels walk-in OK except weekends.

Closed days: National parks don't close, but river cruises skip heavy rain days. Sipadan diving weather-dependent.
Peak season: July-August Malaysian school holidays + Chinese New Year (Jan/Feb) see massive demand. Sipadan permits near impossible without 6-month advance booking.
Best time of day: Wildlife: dawn (5:30-8 AM) and dusk (16:30-18:30). Proboscis monkeys most active at these times. Midday is dead - use for travel/rest.
Rainy season: November-February is monsoon season. Kinabatangan flooding possible, Sipadan diving conditions variable. March-October is dry season - IDEAL.

If your time is short

Do not miss: Bako proboscis monkey dusk viewing (17:30-18:30)

If you only have one day: Impossible. Minimum 5 days. If only 3 days: Kuching -> Bako -> skip Kinabatangan -> fly to Semporna for diving.
If it rains: Wildlife viewing continues in light rain. Heavy rain = skip river cruise, use for travel days. Kuching has Sarawak Museum for culture fix.
Skip if time is short: Kuching city wandering (nice but not essential)
KK finish (can fly out from Tawau if time-pressed)

Mistakes to avoid

DON'T assume Sipadan permits are easy - they're a lottery, book 6 months ahead minimum
DON'T skip Bako overnight - day trips miss the magic dusk monkey viewing
DON'T book overland Kuching->Sandakan buses (12+ hours misery) - fly instead, it's RM200 and saves a day
DON'T bring glass wine bottles on jungle trails - pack in plastic/bladder for Bako hiking
DON'T expect wine in the jungle - BYOB from Kuching or you're drinking warm beer
DON'T dive Sipadan without Advanced Open Water cert - walls are deep, currents strong
DON'T wear bright colors on wildlife walks - neutrals only
