Delphi Archaeological Site
The "navel of the world" - where Greeks sought prophecy from the Pythia oracle for over 1,000 years. Though Apollo dominated, Dionysus ruled Delphi for three winter months when Apollo departed. The theater and stadium hosted the Pythian Games, whose victors received laurel wreaths. Wine libations accompanied every consultation of the oracle.

High on Mount Parnassus, this cave was sacred to Pan and the nymphs, but also hosted Dionysian worship. Ancient writers describe winter celebrations here by women devotees of Dionysus. Osios Loukas Monastery
This 10th-century Byzantine monastery between Delphi and Thebes shows how Christian culture absorbed wine symbolism. The mosaics are among Byzantine art's finest, and the monastery's location in wine country isn't coincidental. Monks here made wine for centuries, continuing ancient traditions in Christian form.
