Alkuviini

Alkuviini is a Helsinki natural-wine importer that spends the summer pouring its own imports from a heritage kiosk on Hakaniemi Market Square, managed by Helsinki City Premises. The house says the kiosk has the country's widest range of natural wines by the glass, and City Premises wrote that the terrace proved hugely popular in its first summer. The list runs to small producers such as Sylvain Bock and Pequeños y Salvajes.

This is a kiosk with an outdoor terrace, which had 200 seats in 2026. Wine is poured by the glass, next to coffee and filled sandwiches. At weekends rotating DJs play, and the house also runs vintage sales and cultural events through the summer. The house says the sun reaches the terrace from morning to evening. Hours depend on the weather.

Go in summer: the kiosk and its terrace open only for the summer season, and no opening or closing date is posted, so in May or September check @alkuviini on Instagram first. Most Helsinki kiosks of this kind run from May to September. Saturday is the long day, from 9 in the morning. Music plays on weekend evenings, 17–20. Mondays are not in the hours, and everything runs weather permitting.

Summer 2026 hours, weather permitting: Tuesday to Friday and Sunday 12–23, Saturday 9–23; no Monday hours are published. Prices and booking are not posted online. The kiosk stands at the edge of Hakaniemi Market Square, the square of Hakaniemi Market Hall. Trams stop on the square, at platforms 12–15. Hakaniemi metro station (M1 and M2) has an exit on the market-square side, but from 1 October 2026, for about seven months, the market-square side is closed and the station can only be entered and left from the Toinen linja and Porthaninkatu side.

The house calls the kiosk its import showroom for the summer, and itself a wine bar and café. The house says it opened the terrace here in 2025, after earlier spells in Kaivopuisto, at the Kult club and in the Harju 8 cellar. It opens only in summer.

The square itself opened in 1897, and many May Day marches and demonstrations have set off from it.

The kiosk doubles as the importer's showroom, so the glass list follows its own portfolio. The house names 20 producers, among them Emilie Mutombo, La Grapperie, Sylvain Bock, Celler La Salada, Cosmic Vinyaters and SERPS, and it works with other importers to round out the range.
