Gstaad Palace

The MICHELIN Guide gives the Gstaad Palace Two MICHELIN Keys in its 2026 Swiss hotel selection, and the house says its rôtisserie Le Grill holds 16 GaultMillau points; GaultMillau lists both Le Grill and Le Grand. For someone not staying, a booked dinner is the way in: the hotel runs no cellar tour or wine tasting, and wine is ordered at the table.

An evening here is a restaurant booking, not a tour. Le Grill is a rôtisserie with an open show kitchen; Le Grand serves international haute cuisine with garden and mountain views; La Fromagerie serves fondue and raclette in the old strong room, at 7.00 pm or 9.30 pm. After dinner comes the GreenGo club, opened in 1971, whose Teo Jakob interior, the house says, has stayed the same.

Only in season. Winter runs 15 December 2026 to 7 March 2027 and summer 20 June to 5 September 2027; the restaurants and bars close with the hotel, so it is closed in spring and autumn. The first Gstaad Wine & Food Festival, 24–27 June 2027, puts tastings and dinners in the village's five-star hotels.

Book tables online on palace.ch or by email; the Lobby Bar takes no reservations. From 7 pm men need a jacket in Le Grill, the Bar du Grill and the Veranda of Le Grand; shorts, open-toe shoes, caps, hoodies, t-shirts, ripped jeans and sports shoes are not allowed in the evening. Gstaad is on the GoldenPass line. From Montreux, regional panoramic trains take about 1 h 40 without a change, the GoldenPass Express about 1 h 26; from Spiez allow about 1 h 22, changing at Zweisimmen. From Gstaad station to the door at Palacestrasse 28 is about 920 m on foot, roughly 12 minutes uphill. Lake Thun's vineyards in the Bernese Oberland start at Spiez.

The Gstaad Palace is a seasonal luxury hotel on the hill above Gstaad, open since 1913 and, the house says, owned by the Scherz family since 1947. Outside guests can book its restaurants: Le Grill, Le Grand, Gildo's and, in winter, La Fromagerie in a former wartime strong room. It is a stop on the Gstaad: Palace Hotel & Alpine Wine trail.

The house tells it this way: a village teacher built Gstaad's first luxury hotel after the Montreux–Zweisimmen railway arrived; it opened on 8 December 1913 with 250 beds. In 1939/40 the Union Bank of Switzerland built a strong room under the terrace for gold. In 1947 Ernst Scherz bought back shares sold to a speculator. The vault became La Fromagerie for the 1975/76 winter; Peter Sellers' The Return of the Pink Panther, partly shot here, premiered in Gstaad that September.

The Bar du Grill has no booking button of its own: reserve Le Grill online and write "Bar du Grill" in the comment. GreenGo tables are booked by email, and the house says the club can be hired for private parties. The Lobby Bar takes no reservations and serves drinks and light dishes through the day, the easy way into the hotel without a dinner.
