Moët & Chandon
Why go
Three things separate Moët & Chandon from its neighbours on the Avenue de Champagne: scale, depth and published prices. The house states 28 kilometres of galleries — the longest cellar network in Champagne, according to the Épernay tourist office — and lists every tour price in euros on its own site. It draws grapes from roughly 200 of Champagne's 323 crus. The Avenue de Champagne runs directly above those cellars.
What to expect
Every published Moët & Chandon visit follows the same shape: a guided walk through the Épernay chalk cellars, 10 to 30 metres down, then a seated tasting. Tours run 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes and are given in English or French. The cheapest, The Imperial Moment at €48 (July 2026), pours Moët Impérial and Rosé Impérial. All eight are guided and ticketed — the house sells no free or self-guided visit.
When to go
Moët & Chandon publishes daily opening at Épernay with no closed season, and the Épernay tourist office lists the house as open daily by appointment (July 2026). Tours depart regularly through the day between 09:30 and 17:00. Because places on each departure are limited, the binding constraint is which tour still has space rather than which month you pick.
Practical details
Moët & Chandon is at 18 avenue de Champagne, 51200 Épernay. Cellar tours run 09:30–17:00 daily and the boutique stays open until 18:00 (July 2026). Eight tours are published: The Imperial Moment €48, On the Rocks €55, Signature €65, Grand Vintage €85, Moët Collection €190, Haute Œnologie €220, Terroir Treasures €235, À la volée €460. Walk-ins are possible but places are limited, so book through the house's online system. The cellars stay cool — bring a warm layer. A lift and a separate wheelchair entrance serve the galleries. The house publishes no minimum age and no booking lead time.
Getting there
A direct train from Paris Gare de l'Est reaches Épernay in 80 minutes, and Moët & Chandon is a five-minute walk from the station at 18 avenue de Champagne. By car the house is 90 minutes from Paris via the A4 motorway. Once on the avenue, the Champagne's Avenue of Bubbles route links the houses on foot, with more than 110 kilometres of cellars underneath and no car needed between stops.
About Moët & Chandon
Moët & Chandon is a Champagne house at 18 avenue de Champagne in Épernay, founded in 1743 by Claude Moët and owned today by LVMH. It sells eight guided cellar tours, priced €48 to €460 (July 2026), running through 28 kilometres of chalk galleries beneath the street. The site sits inside the Champagne UNESCO World Heritage property inscribed in 2015.
History
Claude Moët founded the house in Épernay in 1743. It became Moët et Chandon in 1833, when Pierre-Gabriel Chandon de Briailles — son-in-law of Rémy Moët — joined as a partner of Jean-Rémy Moët, the founder's grandson. Both the English and French encyclopedic records give 1833. The house marketed its first vintage champagne in 1842 and created Moët Impérial, still its flagship blend, in 1869.
Terroir
Moët & Chandon draws grapes from all five main areas of Champagne — Montagne de Reims, Côte des Blancs, Vallée de la Marne, Sézanne and the Aube — reaching roughly 200 of the region's 323 crus, including 17 grands crus and 32 of the 44 premiers crus. Moët Impérial is blended at 30–40% Pinot Noir, 30–40% Meunier and 20–30% Chardonnay, with a dosage of 7 grams per litre.
What insiders know
At the blind-judged Champagne Masters 2026, Moët & Chandon Brut Impérial NV took bronze while Grand Vintage 2016 and Collection Impériale Création No. 1 both took gold. That maps straight onto the Épernay tour list: the €48 Imperial Moment pours the bronze-medal wine, the €85 Grand Vintage tour pours the gold-medal one, and the €220 Haute Œnologie workshop pours Collection Impériale (July 2026).

Did Dom Pérignon invent sparkling champagne?

Can you visit without booking?

Are the cellars wheelchair accessible?
Yes. The house states the cellars have a lift and a special entrance for wheelchair users. It also warns that the galleries, 10 to 30 metres down, stay cool, and advises visitors to bring warm clothing.
How long are the cellars?
28 kilometres. Moët & Chandon states its underground network runs to 28 km, LVMH calls the cellars the most extensive in the region at more than 28 kilometres, and the Épernay tourist office records 28 km of galleries as the largest in Champagne.
