Wino

Wino is a small Kallio restaurant and natural wine bar with a deep French cellar: the June 2026 list holds more than 180 wines, including grower Champagnes from Jacques Selosse, Ulysse Collin and Emmanuel Brochet. Time Out Helsinki rates it 5/5, and its list was a 2023 Star Wine List of the Year Finland finalist. It is a stop on a trail through the city's wine bars.

Expect a small, candlelit room with about half a dozen tables and funk classics from James Brown to Sly & the Family Stone. The house says a single glass is as welcome as a long dinner. Plates are small and seasonal, at 12–22 €, and the bar seats are where the staff talk through the list. Decanter counted about 200 labels in 2024; the June 2026 list held more than 180.

Wino opens Tuesday to Saturday at 17:00 and is closed on Sundays and Mondays. Tuesday to Thursday it runs to 23:00, Friday and Saturday to 24:00; the kitchen closes at 21:00 and 22:00. On Wednesdays a special bottle of the week is opened by the glass. The bar takes a summer break: in 2026 it reopened on 4 September, so check the site before a summer visit.

Wino is at Fleminginkatu 11 in Kallio, beside Karhupuisto park as the house puts it. Trams 3 and 9 stop at Karhupuisto on Viides linja, and buses 73 and 74 stop on Fleminginkatu itself. Sörnäinen metro station is about 450 m away. The landmark at the south end of the street is the Kallio library, built in 1912.

Wino has been on Fleminginkatu since 2017: the bar's website was online at that address in May 2017, and Star Wine List dates it to the same year. Its list was a Star Wine List of the Year Finland finalist in 2023, in Best Short List and Sustainable Wine List. In 2022 it ranked 30th in Viisi Tähteä's professional vote for Finland's 50 best restaurants. Fleminginkatu, locally Flemari, is a street of small shops, restaurants and bars.

Look on the list for Champagne Alexis's Arietis from Troissy, a 100% Pinot Meunier that Decanter singled out in 2024 and that is still on the June 2026 list. At the top end, Château Rayas Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réservé 2009 costs 790 €; the cheapest bottle is 68 €. The name is a pun the house explains itself: in Finnish, vino means slanted or askew.
