Hotel Belvedere: Fondue in a Retired Gondola Cabin

Hotel Belvedere has been part of Grindelwald since 1907, run today by the fourth generation of the Hauser family. In its garden, old gondola cabins that rode the line up from the village from 1978 until 2019 now stand still, each furnished for two, and serve cheese fondue at CHF 35 a person. The fondue menu carries no wine pairing: what is poured is the house's own «Jubiläumscuvée 110 Jahre Belvedere», white or red, by the glass or the bottle. It is the last table of the trail.

When to go

The fondue cabins take guests daily at 14.00, 16.00, 18.00 and 20.00, with no winter-only season; they stand outdoors, so the house asks for warm clothes in winter. The starred «1910» room opens Wednesday to Saturday evenings from 30 May to 30 October 2026, and Schlemmer Atlas lists it closed until 7 January 2027. Every restaurant in the hotel is closed on the evening of 31 October 2026.

Practical details

Fondue costs CHF 35 a person, truffle fondue CHF 48; the two-person Fondue Tasting with one drink each costs CHF 48. Book online, by phone on +41 33 888 99 99 or by email; a credit card guarantees the cabin and a no-show can cost CHF 10 a person. The 14.00 to 18.00 sittings hand the cabin back after 1.45 hours. Getting there

Hotel Belvedere stands at Dorfstrasse 53 in Grindelwald. Grindelwald is under half an hour from Interlaken by train or car. From Grindelwald village station the hotel is just under five minutes on foot, and it collects arriving guests there between 07.00 and 20.00, though not at the Terminal station. Drivers can park free in the hotel's own car park.
