Citadel of Cadmus (Kadmeia)
The ancient acropolis of Thebes, named for the mythical founder Cadmus who brought the alphabet from Phoenicia. His daughter Semele was Dionysus's mother, making Cadmus the god's grandfather. Archaeological remains under modern Thebes occasionally reveal Mycenaean palace structures. Walking the Kadmeia evokes the Bacchae mythology.
