Drinking and driving: Wine is RARE in Eastern Indonesia. Stock up in Labuan Bajo minimarts (limited selection, 200,000-400,000 IDR/bottle) before boat trips. Most liveaboards allow BYOB. Kelimutu area (Moni) has ZERO wine - bring your own from Labuan Bajo or Ende.
Other airports: Ende Airport (ENE) - closer to Kelimutu if approaching from that direction
Ngurah Rai Bali (DPS) - main international gateway, 1.5 hour flight to Labuan Bajo
Without a car: Liveaboard boats for Komodo (no car needed on islands). Trans-Flores Highway for Kelimutu: hire car + driver in Labuan Bajo (600,000-800,000 IDR/day) - roads are winding but scenic. Public buses exist but slow (12+ hours to Ende). Consider flying Labuan Bajo -> Ende to save time.

Why there: Labuan Bajo is the gateway to Komodo National Park - all boats leave from here. Moni is a tiny village at the base of Kelimutu (essential for 04:30 sunrise departure). Multi-base trail.
Booking tip: Labuan Bajo: 1 week ahead for mid-range, 2-3 weeks peak season (July-August). Moni: 3-5 days ahead - very limited rooms.

Peak season: July-August and year-end holidays: Labuan Bajo triples in price, liveaboards sell out 2-3 weeks ahead. Book early.

Shoestring: Labuan Bajo: Bajo Komodo Eco Lodge ($12-18/night dorm), social, book boat trips here. Moni: Bintang Lodge ($15-20/night), basic rooms, Kelimutu views.
Wanderer: Labuan Bajo: Bayview Gardens Hotel ($40-60/night), hillside views, pool, central. Moni: Kelimutu Ecolodge ($35-50/night), best in village.
Flashpacker: Labuan Bajo: Sudamala Resort ($150-200/night), infinity pool, private beach, spa. Moni: still basic - no luxury options exist.

Rainy season: December-March: rough seas may cancel boat trips, Kelimutu often foggy at sunrise. April-November is best for clear conditions.

If you only have one day: Impossible. Minimum 3 days: Day 1-2 Komodo/Padar liveaboard, Day 3 return. Kelimutu adds 2+ days.
If it rains: Labuan Bajo has cafes and diving shops. If seas are rough, explore Labuan Bajo town, diving shops, sunset bars. Kelimutu in fog is disappointing - wait for clear morning.
Skip if time is short: Kelimutu (requires 2+ extra days) - do Komodo/Padar only if limited time

Padar sunrise: Arrive viewpoint by 06:00 for pre-sunrise positioning. Shoot from LEFT trail fork for best three-beach angle. Drone shots incredible.
Komodo dragons: Keep distance, use zoom lens. Rangers can position you safely. Best light: 08:00-10:00 before heat sends dragons into shade.
Kelimutu: Sunrise golden hour 06:00-07:00. Colors most vivid in direct light. Bring wide-angle for all three lakes in frame.
Pink Beach: Underwater housing or GoPro for the coral. Beach shots at midday when pink sand is most visible.
Liveaboard sunset: Wine glass with Komodo islands silhouette - the quintessential shot.
