Flor

Flor is a restaurant and wine bar on Iso Roobertinkatu, an offshoot of Natura, the Green Star restaurant directly across the street. The Michelin Guide lists Flor at its €€ price band. Dinner can be a 49 € surprise menu with a 38 € wine pairing, or à la carte with wines by the glass at 11–16.50 €. It is a stop on The New Wave trail through Helsinki.

Dinner is either à la carte or the house's surprise menu: bread, three starters to share, a main course and dessert, in a vegetarian or non-vegetarian version. The wine list is Old World only, and the house says most of its producers farm organically or biodynamically. Glasses range from a Bairrada white and an Alsace Riesling to a 2015 Rioja Reserva, with more than 100 bottles behind them.

Flor serves dinner Wednesday to Sunday from 17:00 until 23:00. It is closed on Monday and Tuesday, so plan it for the second half of the week. The menu is built around seasonal ingredients, so the dishes change through the year. No summer break is published, but hours can change; check the house's page before a special trip. Tables are booked online, so reserve before setting out.

Flor is at Iso Roobertinkatu 16 in Punavuori, in what the house calls the Design District, directly opposite Natura at number 11. The Michelin Guide describes Iso Roobertinkatu as a busy pedestrianised street. Trams 1 and 3 run along Fredrikinkatu to Viiskulma, about 300 m from the door; check the current tram lines before travelling. Natura's sign across the street marks the right block.

Chef-owner David Alberti, who founded Natura across the street in 2016, runs it with the Natura team, and the house calls Flor Natura's little sister. The Michelin Guide describes it as a relaxed restaurant-cum-wine-bar, built by local craftspeople mainly from Finnish wood.

Flor comes from the team behind Natura, which David Alberti founded at Iso Roobertinkatu 11 in 2016 and which holds a Michelin Green Star. The house says David is half Finnish, half Dutch, and worked in Michelin-starred kitchens including Gordon Ramsay's Royal Hospital Road, Le Gavroche and Chez Serge in La Rochelle. The house adds that Vivaret of Kontiolahti built the woodwork and that the walls carry Savella clay paint from Naantali.

According to the Michelin Guide, the name Flor means flower. The house says Devis, its sommelier from Italy, chooses the wines for both Natura and Flor. Sweet wines come by the 8 cl pour, so dessert can end with a small glass of Moscato d'Asti, a 2000 Monbazillac or a tawny port. Every cocktail on the list can also be made alcohol-free, for a lighter evening.
