Boutique Hotel & Restaurant Glacier

The Glacier's wine list won the Fine Dining & Gehobene Küche category of VINUM's Swiss Wine List Award in the 2025 and 2026 editions, after the jury's Ueli-Prager-Preis in 2024. The house wine exists nowhere else: the house says it is a Pinot Blanc from vines near Sion, one barrique a year made for the Glacier by Niklaus Wittwer, 310 bottles of the 2024. It is a stop on the village wine trail.

The tasting takes place in the wine cellar, the barn the house's history says later served as a Schwingkeller, a hall for Swiss wrestling. A sommelier pours three wines with a cheese and meat board. In the restaurant the list leans on Swiss and French wines, at least 230 are poured by the glass with Coravin, and there are no half bottles.

Winter works in full: the restaurant publishes daily hours, lunch from 12:00 to 17:00 and dinner from 17:30 with last orders at 21:00, and every wine moment here is indoors. The sommelier tasting runs on Sundays at 16:00. One guide reports the restaurant closed on Mondays from May to mid-June and in October and November, so check the day when booking in those months.

The Sunday tasting costs CHF 49 a person: three glasses (two white, one red) with a Swiss cheese and meat board, about an hour, booked from the house's events page; private tastings on request. Dinner is à la carte or a five-course menu at 140 francs, with a wine pairing at 75, ordered by 20:00. Groups of six or more and special diets: email at least 24 hours in advance. Prices change, so check when booking.

The hotel stands at Endweg 55, about a 10-minute walk from Grindelwald station; the house puts it 700 m from the Eiger Express terminal. The same owners' wine bar, the Cork Club, is a separate door at Dorfstrasse 119, open Wednesday to Sunday from 12:00 to 21:00, for a glass without dinner.

The Boutique Hotel & Restaurant Glacier is a 28-room hotel at Endweg 55 in Grindelwald, in the Bernese Oberland, with a restaurant facing the Eiger North Face and a wine list the house counts at over 750 positions. The house dates the hotel to 1864. Its wine cellar is the old barn, and on Sundays a sommelier holds a tasting there.

The house dates the Glacier to 1864 and takes its name from the ice once cut from the Grindelwald glaciers for cooling; Michelin says the blocks went to Interlaken by horse and carriage. From 1945 the barn served as a Schwingkeller, later as a school gym and music room. Under Margrit and Ueli Kaufmann, who ran it from 1976, Swiss television showed its folk-music evenings. Justine and Jan Pyott took over after the 2016/17 winter and rebuilt it in 2017.

The house's own story puts the cellar room at 320 years old: the owner said in 2019 that it was found behind white lime plaster during the rebuild. The house's history page dates the hotel and its barn to the middle of the 19th century. Either way it was a barn, not a winery. Ask for the Glacier's own Pinot Blanc by the glass: CHF 12 for 10 cl.
