Viinibaari Apotek

Apotek pours wine inside Joutsen-apteekki, a Helsinki pharmacy that opened in 1912 and whose original 1912 furnishings are protected. Star Wine List named it a finalist for Finland's Best Medium-Sized List in 2023 and 2024, and Decanter's 2024 Helsinki guide lists it for grower Champagnes, German Rieslings and Burgundies. It is a stop on The Pioneers trail.

Inside, the protected 1912 pharmacy furnishings frame the bar. MyHelsinki describes vintage brown pharmacy bottles on dark wooden shelves beside the wine. Plates are small, made to share and ordered through the evening, and the house calls its portions petite. Wines by the glass change often. The pharmacy's former laboratory is now a private room for groups of up to 25.

Apotek opens Tuesday to Saturday only: Tuesday to Thursday 17–23, Friday 16–01 and Saturday 15–01. It is closed on Sundays and Mondays. A glass needs no booking, because the summer terrace and some indoor tables stay unreserved. On autumn Thursdays at 18:00 the bar runs open tastings of about two hours, booked by email. Holiday hours run from 2 November to 2 January, and the bar is closed 23–25 December.

Bookings are taken only for diners, through the house's reservation page. Groups over 8 contact the bar by email or phone. The kitchen serves small seasonal plates, cheese, charcuterie and a chef's 5-course menu at €59. On the autumn 2026 list, bottles run from €45 to €750, and the by-the-glass list is kept at the bar. Small dogs are welcome at the bar and on the terrace.

Viinibaari Apotek is a wine bar in a former 1912 pharmacy at Lapinlahdenkatu 1 in Kamppi, Helsinki. Joutsen-apteekki, the Swan pharmacy, had to close after its pharmacist did not get a new licence in 2015. The room became a wine bar in 2020. The house says it was created by the restaurant family behind Carelia and Kuu, and that its wines come mainly from European grower-producers.

Joutsen-apteekki turned 103 on 17 November 2015, which dates it to 1912, and the Finnish Heritage Agency protected its original 1912 furnishings. The building at Lapinlahdenkatu 1ab dates from 1907 and was designed by Selim A. Lindqvist. In 2015 pharmacist Bengt Mattila did not get a new licence for the loss-making pharmacy; he hoped it would become a museum. The room became a wine bar in 2020.

The house's own pages give three founding years: 1912 in Finnish, and 1913 and 1918 in English. The pharmacy's 103rd birthday in November 2015 fits 1912. In Swedish the pharmacy was Apoteket Svanen, on the corner of Eriksgatan and Lappviksgatan. The autumn 2026 list has a long grower-Champagne section, with Agrapart and Vilmart & Cie, and a Jura section with Domaine du Pélican.
